In the Parish of Balasar, Fr. Leopoldino Mateus promoted various religious movements: Eucharistic Crusade; Catholic Agrarian Youth; Catholic Agrarian League, among others. Gave special attention to children, which were a constant presence in processions and Eucharistic Adoration; helped the poor with his parishioners’ cooperation and visited the sick every month.
When Fr. Leopoldino came to Balasar, Alexandrina was 29 years old and had already been for 8 years bedridden. Firstly, he took her the Holy Communion on the first Fridays ; secondly every 15 days and later every day during 18 years. Several times, he was present to watch the Passion of Jesus in Alexandrina.
Following are two references to Fr. Leopoldino made by Alexandrina in her writings:
«It was already night when I went to confession and went for my parish too resigned. May Jesus pay him cover him with glory." (Ecstasies; 09/23/1946)
«In the morning I had done my preparation to receive Jesus and my pastor came and putting my soul on the table, he lighted the candles and told me:
“Here is Our Lord to make you a some company. Father Humberto will come and he will give the Lord to you."» (Feelings of the Soul; 12/10/1944)
After the death of Alexandrian Father Leopoldino wrote several articles about it: "Whoever, with Alexandria, represented the will of the Church and the Bishop was his pastor. And it was he, the Father Leopoldino Mateus, abbot of Balasar, who, immediately after the death of his parishioners, he wrote many articles that praised the virtues rare and obvious that she had showed. "
