Stations of the Cross

These prayers are based in texts of Blessed Alexandrina collected by her second largest spiritual director and biographer Father Umberto Pasquale, SDB)

Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves

and take up their cross daily and follow me. (Luke 2:23)

Jesus invites Alexandrina to take part of the human redemption:

« Give me your hands; I want them to carve with me:

Give me your feet; I want them to carve with me;

They made me; give me your heart, I want to cross it with a

Spear, like they were crossing me; consecrate me your whole body;

Offer herself to me; I want to have all of you. »

The Stations to the Cross that we present are composed by texts from the Sacred Scriptures and texts from Blessed Alexandrina, where she describes the Mystic Passion that she experimented like Jesus.

Let’s do The Stations of the Cross, following the steps of the Savior.

FIRST STATION

Jesus Is Condemned to Die.

We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless you.

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

Gospel of Mathew (27; 22-23)

“What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked.

They all answered, “Crucify him!”

“Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.

But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”

Alexandrina (she refers to Jesus)

«I am treated like a mad man, but that little matter. (…) Crucified him! Crucified him! Satanic rage; I am Barabbas favourite! Tell me, if you are in fact Son of God! If I tell you you won’t believe me. But it’s true what I tell you; soon you will see Me next to my Father with all the power to judge you. There is nothing between you and that fair. Divine Lord! This man is innocent! I will punish him and t the end I will release him. Crucified him! You are going to the column! » (E.; 1940)

(Silence) Have mercy on us, Lord.

SECOND STATION

Jesus carries his cross

We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless you.

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

Gospel of Saint John (John 19; 17)

“Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha)”

Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«I received the cross: crushed, curved with all of its weight, I fell underneath it.» (Feelings of the Soul; 1945) «Take the cross, embrace it and follow to the Calvary. That tremendous mountain, enormous like as if it was the entire world…» (Feelings of the Soul; 1949) «It wasn’t the cross that I carried on my shoulders it was the entire world, I felt it really well.» (Feelings of the Soul; 1949)

(Silence) Have mercy on us, Lord.

THIRD STATION

Jesus falls the first time

We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless you.

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

The prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 53, 2)

“He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.”

Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«And in the same union, today I fell with the cross. It weight over me. One arm fell over my chest and wounded my heart. For a few moments I was fainting as if I had no life. The thugs stared at me curious, thinking I had died. New furor dragged me strongly and made hitting the flagstones. New sources of blood opened the thorns of my head. But still my heart just leaves love and compassion for them. » (Feelings of the Soul, 1946).

(Silence)   Have mercy on us, Lord.

FORTH STATION

Jesus meets his Mother

We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless you.

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

The Gospel of Saint Luke (Luke 2, 34-35)

“Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«I felt the way to my Calvary, it came to me after meeting my Mother; she looked at me and I looked at her. Our Hearts were united with the same pain. The exchanged of our looks weren’t long; I had to keep on walking, mistreated, pushed and dragged. But the pain in our hearts did not get apart. (Feelings of the Soul; 1945)

(Silence)   Have mercy on us, Lord.

FIFTH STATION

Simon Helps Jesus Carry His Cross.

We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless you.

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

Gospel of Mathew (Mathew 27; 32)

“As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.”

Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«I took the cross, I fell over and over again; I was dying in each step that I toke. I fell and over me it was the cross. It wasn’t for pain but for fear I just wanted someone to carry it for me. There were some people who carried it, not for love, but because someone told them to; yet I felt my heart dispersing to him. What a pay!» (Felling of the Soul; 1945)

(Silence)  Have mercy on us, Lord.

SIXTH STATION

Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless you.

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

From the Book of Psalms (Psalms 27; 8-9)

“My heart says of you “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior."

Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«In this path a woman comes in my way, a dear woman pitying my pain. With tenderness and love she cleans the sweat from my face. The bonds of friendship are closely holding our hearts. It is indescribable what it meant; I wanted to give the praises to you. Oh! How I wish she were spoken by this act so heroic.» (Feelings of the Soul, 1945). «When Clean Your Holy Face, He left it printed and I felt strongly that face Blessed, that picture was unique to be seen as the world exists.» (Feelings of the Soul; 1945)

(Silence)      Have mercy on us, Lord.

SEVENTH STATION

Jesus falls the Second time

We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless you.

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

From the Prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 53; 4-5)

"Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."

Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«I climb the big mountain of the Calvary, I fall so many times and I feel as if my body is already a corpse, an unknown corpse. The blood that runs down his face doesn’t let him see. The body is worse than a leper body. The heart is thirsty, it will win for the souls, it shall die for them.» (Feelings of the Soul; 1945)

(Silence)   Have mercy on us, Lord.

EIGHT STATION

Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem

We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless you.

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

From the Gospel of Luke (Luke 23; 27-29)

"A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. Jesus turned and said to them, «Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children». For the time will come when you will say, «Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!»"

Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«Don’t cry for me, cry for you, for you children, for your sins because they are the cause of my death…» (Ecstasy; 1939). Following, today, the strait streets of the Calvary some women followed me; they wept, there was so much suffering. I walked and looked at them with compassion. My heart whisper to them: don’t cry for me, but for you, cry for your guilt, they are the cause of my pain.» (Feeling of the Soul; 1946)

(Silence)  Have mercy on us, Lord.

NINTH STATION

Jesus falls a third time

We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless you.

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

From the Prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 53; 6-7)

"We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth."

Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«I was like a ball that rolled up and down and down and up through the sufferings; I was the entertainment ball. I went down when the furor was dragged; I went up when the violence made me go up and specially love, yes, love made me walk. » (Feelings of the Soul; 1945). «Bigger, much bigger than the anger was the strength of love that dragged me;» (Feelings of the Soul; 1945).

(Silence)   Have mercy on us, Lord.

Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«On top of it, they toke my ropes that surrounded my neck and my waist. What enormous pain! They were buried in my flesh, filled with blood. By being ripped, they left my body full of scars with big wounds that were connected and buried.» (Feelings of the Soul; 1945). «I felt the shame of Jesus by being taken out of his vests. Such a profound feeling! I don’t how should I named that shame.» (Feelings of the Soul; 1945).

(Silence)   Have mercy on us, Lord.

We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless you.

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

From the Gospel of Saint John (John 19; 18-19)

“There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle. Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: jesus of nazareth, the king of the jews.”

 Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«The crucifixion was so violent. I felt as if my arms and legs were being ripped apart with such strength in order to reach the point in the cross. The blows were given on the hands and feet, but at the same time felt as if they were given in the heart; felt it to be crushed» (Feelings of the Soul, 1949). «Without the sound of heavy blows on nails that sang in the distance, nor the sight of so much suffering, moved their hearts. (Silence)   Have mercy on us, Lord.

Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«… to fell the punches of all human kind, person by person, some with all the cruelty, other not knowing what they were doing.» (Feelings of the Soul; 1946) «By getting insults, by feeling the thirst devoured of his Divine Heart, Jesus whispered full of kindness: “ My children, be thirsty of yourselves; is it like this that you want to fulfilled me?» (Feelings of the Soul; 1946)

Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.”

 Alexandrina (refers to Jesus)

«Suddenly, my soul sees Hem, being taken down the cross, the cross that was inside me. His holy head suspended; an arm already outspread and Mother already seated next to the cross with open arms to receive Him. It calls you because he wants you; listen and be alert: it’s the hour of grace! Receive it, repair it and embrace it! I keep on insisting and I ask with all the warmth in my Divine Heart: Come to me, I call you with the Father’s love!”» (Feelings of the Soul; 1950).

«It has been some time, Jesus resurrected and made me resurrect and told me: My daughter, my daughter, where the heart is, is the pure love, I am with the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. It is here in your heart that we meet; here we have our delights.”» (Feelings of the Soul; 1948)

(…) I wanted to eat the Eater with all the humanity, I wanted to have everyone and that everyone had me and in me become other people (…) it is a big life, infinitely big, is the life of Heaven and Earth. Oh my God, I am not worthy, I cannot have in me such greatness, so many and so intimate desires and cravings! » (Feelings of the Soul; 1949)
